next contestant contestant number 10
Benjamin dream dream Benjamin the most
powerful weapon on the planet isn't a
nuclear bomb or military rifle, neither
is it my brother snoring at 3:00 a.m. in
the morning yes that nearly took the
record it drives me crazy every day but
the most powerful weapon on earth is a
dream I remember when I was 10 years old
my father used to read different types
of magazines and one of those magazines
included the Forbes magazine one day out
of curiosity I picked up the magazines
and started reading them the 50 most
successful people in the world by Forbes
Dad what makes a person successful
my father thought about this interesting
question for a while before answering
son each of us is special I want you to
find your dream and I want you to pursue
that dream and I really wanted to be
successful in my life I just didn't know
what my dream was have you ever faced
that problem in your life before so I
set out to try and discover my dream
after almost burning down entire kitchen
ruining a copy art painting and drowning
in a pool which was just 0.5 meters deep
I still hadn't found my dream I was
frustrated but it was about this time
that my form teacher invited me to take
part in a debating competition I was
shocked a debating competition I could
hardly speak in front of my friends
before stuttering or stammering let alone,
take part in the debating competition
however after support from my
encouraging father I decided that I will
give it a try after two months of
training and continuous perseverance I
was ready for the competition
unfortunately our debating team didn't
win anything but I had developed a dream
a dream to inspire others through public
speaking and after having found my dream
I started taking part in even more
public speaking competitions I failed to
reach the semi-finals of a competition
five out of five times I was dejected
disappointed and frustrated but I wasn't
going to give up that easily
I took each failure as a learning
opportunity sharpened my oratorical
skills and today I am finally standing
on the stage for the grand finals of the
national public speaking competition
ladies and gentlemen do you dare to
dream in spite of all the challenges you
are going to face dreams our have
transformed Singapore from a small
fishing port into a first world country
dreams have made everything in
this room possible from lights to even
this microphone dreams have allowed a 14
year old student to finally reach the
grand finals of a public speaking
competition today dreams can allow you
to become what you envision yourself to
be in this very room I see the next
Steve Jobs on the right hand side of the
room I see the next Oprah Winfrey on the
left hand side of the room I see the
next Cristiano Ronaldo right there in
the middle yes that's you young man
dreams are what made many things possible
in our lives I strongly believe that
when you pursue your dream work hard for
it believe in it sacrifice for it and
never ever give up you will fulfill your dream
as I did thank you
